Introducing Our Newest Artists...
Saimir Pirgu
The New Pavarotti
Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu will make his LA Opera debut as Rinnuccio in Gianni Schicchi (September 2008). Born in 1981, he began his musical studies in 1988 at the Liceo d'Arte in his native city of Elbasan, as a violinist and continued studying singing at the Conservatories of Tirana and Bolzano, with Vito Brunetti who still is his teacher. After moving to Italy, he won in 2001 the prize as "Best Young Singer" at the "Umberto Sacchetti" Competition in Bologna and in 2002 the International Competition "Enrico Caruso" in Milan. Later that year he also won the "Tito Schipa" International Competition in Lecce. We are excited to be working with such a bright, young star!

Eliza Jane Schneider
We are excited to reintroduce Eliza Jane Schneider back in the fold. She's an old friend, singer, fiddler, author, actress, voice artist, dialectologist, composer, oral historian and playwright. You may be familiar with her work as most of the female voices on Comedy Central's animated hit "South Park." She currently tours the world with her band, "Eliza Jane and the Barnyard Gypsies" while collecting dialect recordings and also performing her award-winning multiple character solo show - Freedom of Speech. Her diverse background also includes starring roles in two CBS Saturday Morning live action television series, including the Emmy-Award winning "Beakman's World" as "Liza." For more information on Eliza, be sure to check out her website www.elizajane.com.
Eliza Jane Schneider's twenty-five character solo play, Freedom of Speech, will take the audience on her journey through the kitchenettes and hearts of Arizona polygamists, Los Angeles dominatrixes and Montana Huterites, and into the real social emergencies facing America as a nation. Arkansas fiddles, Pittsburgh street rap and New Orleans midnight arias provide the soundtrack to Schneider's 317,000-mile spiritual quest, born of her hypothesis that dialects-residual phonemes-- are the only archeological dig the kids of America have. What began as a World Arts and Cultures thesis project at UCLA and evolved through various cocoons as Road Trip and USA 911 emerges as a jarring sociopolitical manifesto, Freedom of Speech.
THE NEW YORK REVIEWS ARE IN for Eliza Jane Schneider's smash one-woman show FREEDOM OF SPEECH
"ASTONISHING TRANSFORMATIONS!"
-Bruce Weber, The New York Times
"If Lily Tomlin and Anna Deavere Smith were to merge their talents, the result might be something like Eliza Jane Schneider's Freedom of Speech, a dramatic tour of America and also a tour de force. . .A wondrous harmony of American voices pouring from a one-woman choir."
-Adam Feldman, Broadway.com
"CAPTIVATING! A vivid aural photo album of America."
-Brian Scott Lipton, New York Post
"Ms. Schneider's talent amazes."
-Rinne Groft, The New York Sun

From the artist who brought From Tel-Aviv to Ramallah to NYC, get ready for another tour de force performance. Yuri Lane, beatbox artist extraordinaire, presents the New York premiere of this hip-hop comedy about urban life. Growing up in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district during the freewheeling 70's, Yuri was exposed to a symphony of countercultural sounds from his father's jazz collection to the funk and soul giving rise to hip-hop on neighborhood streets. Yuri Lane tells the story of his boyhood in these wild times, his family's ambivalent Judaism, the loss of his best friend to gun violence, and the utopian vision that characterized this artistic community.

Harmonically rich and rhythmically compelling, the compositions of Gyan Riley reveal both instrumental virtuosity and a breadth of imagination and depth of spirit that are, frankly, awesome. His original pieces mingle influences of jazz and Indian classical music with classical and Spanish traditions, all colored by his passionate, intricate guitar work. Tonight's show focuses on selections from Gyan's new CD, Melismantra, with guest artists Tracy Silverman on violin and Scott Amendola on drums.

MacHomer at the Grand Opera House
Mark your calendars for the merry mayhem and madness that is MacHomer, Sunday, March 30, 2008 @ 7 pm at The Grand Opera House in Wilmington, Delaware.
Two dysfunctional families comically collide when the Simpsons meet Shakespeare's murderous monarchs. Rick Miller single-handedly voices 50 characters from the hit TV show in a hilarious yet reverent take on the familiar Scottish tragedy. "A comic tour-de-force," according to The Toronto Star.
